Boys & Girls Clubs Receives Baseball Tomorrow Fund Grant 17th March, 2009 |

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF FORT WORTH RECEIVES GRANT FROM
THE BASEBALL TOMORROW FUND
Fort Worth, Texas (March 17, 2009) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth announced today that it was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $155,200 from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF). The purpose of the grant is to construct a baseball field at the East Side branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth. This field will serve over 4,000 youth annually, ages 6-18.
As part of the Club’s philosophy of strategically locating Clubs in areas that are most underserved and dangerous for youth, the Club has placed three Clubs in the East Side of Fort Worth. Combined, these three branches serve over three thousand needy youth. Phase Three involves adding a second baseball field that will serve the older youth and will further extend the hours of operation. The project is expected to add a minimum of 50 players to the baseball and softball leagues due to the increased capacity to serve older kids. Additionally, the improved baseball field and program will be used to raise the Club’s profile in the community and encourage more youth to become members.
“This is a wonderful opportunity, not only for our program, but for the children who play the game,” said Daphne Barlow, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs. “The baseball and softball programs are one of the favorites among our members. They learn important life skills such as respect, responsibility and sportsmanship, all while having fun. The baseball field will also be a great asset to the community which surrounds the Club.”
"The Baseball Tomorrow Fund appreciates the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth’s commitment to youth baseball and softball in its community. We are pleased to support the continued growth of this program." added Cathy Bradley, Executive Director or the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth is still accepting in-kind and monetary contributions. Those interested in donating to the project may contact Kristi Holt at 817-834-4711 extension 220.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2009, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund is designed to promote the growth of youth baseball and softball throughout the world by awarding grants to support field renovation and construction projects, equipment and uniform purchases, coaches training material and other selected program expenses. Since its formation by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association in 1999, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund has awarded approximately 400 grants totaling more than $15 million to non-profit and tax-exempt organizations in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Approximately 175,000 youth players have benefited from programs and facilities supported by the fund. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund receives approximately 500 applications each year and awards grants on a quarterly basis after a selective review process. For more information, visit www.baseballtomorrowfund.com.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth (www.fortworthkids.org) provides enriching programs for youth from disadvantaged circumstances to develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens. For 83years, the Club has been reaching out to the most vulnerable in our community, seeking to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies fail to reach.

Thank you Colonial Country Club Charities and Crowne Plaza Invitational 22nd December, 2008 |
 |
We'd like to offer a special thank you to the Colonial Country Club Charities and the Crowne Plaza Invitational Golf Tournament which raised funds to benefit our organization!
Colonial Country Club capped off its record $6.6 million year in fundraising by distributing to 81 local charities $250,000 in donations at the annual Colonial Country Club Charities holiday breakfast. The tournament's record-breaking year of fundraising is helping a lot of local charities, and places it among the best on the PGA TOUR. The $6.6 million in total charitable contributions generated from the May tournament is a 50% increase over 2007.
According to tournament officials, the Birdies for Charity component of the tournament's fundraising efforts brought in $5.3 million, which also set a record and was the best such program on the PGA TOUR. In this year's Birdies For Charity program, 24 local non-profit organizations solicited pledges from individuals and corporations for every birdie made during the 2008 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

As part of a national crime prevention initiative, the Club has a longstanding partnership with the Fort Worth Police Department.
The National Police Athletic League (NPAL) program allows police officers to work with members on a daily basis.
The officers have been helping Club members by mentoring, coaching basketball and football teams, giving them life lessons, and discussing the impacts from dropping out of school and joining gangs. The Club also works with officers in helping with community service projects in the neighborhoods where members live, fostering pride in ownership.
