DONATIONS

How your donation helps:

The Club provides a safe environment for youth to learn how to make good life choices and how to say “no” to risky behaviors. For many of the youth served, the Club will be the only place where this information is available to them and one of the few places where caring adults will take the time to get to know them and help them on an individual level.  Following is some additional information on our Club membership and how you help our members.

In 2007, the Club provided services to over 8,998 youth ages 6-18 at a cost to the organization of $600 per youth. Youth pay a membership fee of $0-$10 per year, on a sliding scale that depends on their ability to pay.  Each year, a random sampling of these members completes a survey about their general demographics and participation at the Club. The results are, at the same time, revealing, alarming, and hopeful.

  • The 2007 survey found that club members are 58% African American, 35% Hispanic, 3% Caucasian and 4% other.
  • Only 36% live in a two-parent household and 43% live with their mother only.
  • Approximately 83% are characterized as economically disadvantaged (less than or equal to 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines—the state average is 47% and the Fort Worth Independent School District’s average is 60%).
  • Over half (52%) responded that an immediate family member is presently, or has been, incarcerated.

Despite these significant challenges, almost 80% of the members have been involved with the Club for greater than a year and 60% attend four or more days per week. Eighty-six percent believe that the Club helps them do better in school. Ninety-one percent say that “Club staff and members help me to feel proud about myself.” Ninety-one percent also say that they plan to attend college.

Your donations help to fund the wide range of programs and services we offer, from providing books, school supplies and appropriate clothing to paying for the after-school pick-ups so kids can get to the clubs safely; from providing hot meals through Kids Café to funding Food for Thought, a program that engages both students and their parents while providing groceries as a reward for high-achieving schoolwork.
